A shocking case of fraud has recently emerged in Shilkuri, where a woman allegedly swindled approximately three crore rupees by deceiving the local villagers. The incident came to light during a protest meeting held at Shilkuri Dance Hall on Sunday. Dr. Malbika Chowdhury, a member of the World Commission on Human Rights Protection, assured the victims of her assistance in the legal process.

The fraud was orchestrated by a woman named Kusuma Begum, who duped the attendees of the meeting by promising them loans. Kusuma, residing in Shilkuri Babubasa Tila, acquired loans from various banks, including Bandhan Bank, LNT Bank, and Arohan Bank. She distributed a portion of the borrowed money among the villagers, assuring them the remaining sum would be distributed soon. Kusuma claimed to be diligently paying off the bank installments, but when some villagers visited the banks, they discovered the installments were not being paid, and Kusuma had pocketed the money meant for loan repayment.

Villagers revealed that they had been deceived for six years, but the truth came to light recently. Enraged, they confronted Kusuma, who continued to threaten them. Kusuma's fraudulent activities took a new turn when she established a bank called Sukanyajivan Nidhi Private Limited, presenting herself as the managing director. She handed out passbooks to customers indicating their deposited amounts. However, when customers attempted to withdraw their savings, they faced insurmountable obstacles. The money displayed in the passbooks was inaccessible. After operating for six months, Sukanya Jeevan Nidhi Private Limited Bank mysteriously vanished.

Frustrated and helpless, the villagers decided to organize a protest meeting at Silkuri Dance Hall. Dr. Malbika Chowdhury assured the victims of her support in legal proceedings and urged them to exercise patience. She emphasized the importance of following legal avenues and not resorting to vigilantism.

The protest meeting was initiated by Deepak Mala, Vharakhai GP President Suryaprasad Gad, Shilkuri GP representative Arjun Das, and other concerned citizens. Despite being the focal point of the meeting, Kusuma Begum did not attend; instead, a woman named Geeta Pandey represented her. The villagers have given Kusuma time until December 3 before deciding on their next course of action.
