The Income Tax Department conducted late-night raids on the business establishments of two prominent industrialists in Silchar, causing a stir of excitement throughout the city when the news broke on Friday morning. This marked a significant event as it had been a while since the department had carried out such a substantial operation in Silchar.
The individuals targeted in the raid were identified as BJP leader Moolchand Vahid and Kundal Mal Chowdhury. According to insider information, Moolchand claimed that the keys to Valdh's Gold Cinema and his personal office were misplaced.
Subsequently, income tax officials had to forcibly enter the premises by breaking the locks. The security was heightened, with a substantial paramilitary presence guarding all their businesses, and entry was restricted for the day.
The investigation by the Income Tax Department is still ongoing as of now.
