Ajanta Neog : First Woman Finance Minister of Assam.
In the new Himanta-led Government, Assam has got its first woman minister, Ajanta Neog.
She has been sworn in as the new Finance Minister by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Neog has a record of being MLA for 5 times straight, from Golaghat.
Ajanta Neog is a Law graduate from Guwahati University, and had led the PWD department in the late Tarun Gogoi's government before she switched to BJP in December 2020. Gogoi had guided and introduced her to politics after her husband Nagen Neog got killed by ULFA in 1996.
Neog, now 46, has won the Golaghat seat with a tremendous margin of 9,036 votes in the recent Assembly Elections. She has a record of being the longest-serving woman MLA from the state and has been holding the position since 2001.
Ajanta Neog said with felicity that she looks forward to taking the responsibility and the new experiences that come with it.
