Assam: Five distinguished personalities from Assam in the list of recieving Padma Awards.
Five individuals from Assam were conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award on Monday, November 8.
President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Monday gave out the prestigious Padma awards to laureates from across the nation for their contribution to the nation in various fields, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
Five individuals from Assam have been honoured with the fourth highest civilian award in India – the Padma Shri. The 5 individuals from Assam to receive the Padma Shri 2020 are:
1. Indira P. P. Bora for Art
2. Lil Bahadur Chettri for Literature and Education
3. Dr. Ravi Kannan R. for Medicine
4. Jogendra Nath Phukan for Literature and Education
5. Dr. Kushal Konwar Sarma for Medicine
Among these distinguished awardees is former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, who has been presented with the honour of Padma Bhushan, posthumously.
