Assam HSLC Exam 2023 in Chaos: Paper Leaks, Cancellations, and Postponements. Dozens of People, Including Teachers and Students, Arrested.
The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam in Assam is seen as one of the most crucial exams that students in the state take. The exam has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this year, with four question papers reportedly leaked, leading to cancellations and postponements of the exams. The first leak was reported on March 6, when a student was found using a mobile phone to get answers to his mathematics paper.
On March 7, it was discovered that the General English paper had been compromised, and SEBA was ordered to cancel exams at all centers where irregularities were reported. On March 12, the General Science exam was cancelled after reports of a paper leak. The police have been investigating the matter, and as of March 17, 27 people have been arrested, including three teachers and 13 students.
The situation has caused mental trauma for students, who depend on these exams to chart their future course. The government has been criticized for the irregularities, and the chief minister has accepted the collective failure, promising that steps will be taken to ensure that this does not happen again.
