Assam record-breaking voter turnout with 81.71% in recent Elections, tops among Indian states
The recently concluded third phase of Lok Sabha elections in 2024 saw Assam emerging with the highest voter turnout, reflecting a robust commitment to democratic participation with approximately 81.71% turnout in the contested seats. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh recorded a turnout of 57.34% across its 10 seats, as reported by the Election Commission.
Despite the heat, polling commenced at 7 am and officially concluded at 6 pm, with citizens showing determination to exercise their democratic rights, even with queues at polling stations being allowed to cast votes after the official closing time.
With Phase 3 concluded, half of the Lok Sabha seats (283) have completed their polling across 20 states/Union Territories. This phase also marked the end of the election process in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
However, the Election Commission reported a commendable approximate voter turnout of 64.40% until 11:40 pm, underscoring significant citizen engagement in the electoral process. Looking ahead, the fourth phase of polling is scheduled for May 13, out of a total of seven phases, with results expected to be declared on June 4.
