Assam Rifles seize 20,000 yaba tablets near the Bangladesh border in Tripura
In a significant move against cross-border drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles conducted a successful operation resulting in the seizure of 20,000 yaba tablets near the Bangladesh border in Tripura. The operation, prompted by specific intelligence on drug smuggling activities in the Sonamura area of the Sepahijala district, unfolded on Tuesday, according to official sources.
Upon receiving information about the illicit activities near the Bangladesh border, the Assam Rifles swiftly launched the operation, during which security forces noticed the suspicious movement of two individuals on motorcycles. The incident occurred in close proximity to the Bangladesh border at Sonamura. When the security forces attempted to intercept the individuals, they refused to stop and instead attempted to escape the area, exploiting the dense foliage of the surrounding forest.
During the pursuit, the motorcyclists discarded two sealed packets into the bushes along the forest road. Despite the evasive maneuvers of the suspects, the Assam Rifles team continued their pursuit but were unable to apprehend the fleeing individuals due to the challenging terrain.
Following a meticulous search of the area, the security forces discovered the discarded sealed packets. Upon inspection, the packets were found to contain a staggering 20,000 yaba tablets, a potent and illegal drug. The seizure underscores the gravity of the cross-border drug trade in the region and the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb such activities.
