Assam: Silchar Medical College and Hospital issues advisory for female Doctors & Staffs, tells them to ensure their own safety by themselves after R.G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata RAPE-MURDER case

In response to the recent tragic incident at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the administration of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) has taken proactive measures to enhance the safety and security of female doctors, students, and healthcare workers within its premises.

The administration has issued an advisory aimed at fostering a safer environment, highlighting a series of precautions to be observed by female members of the institution.

The advisory stresses the importance of avoiding isolated, poorly lit, and sparsely populated areas, particularly after dark. Female doctors, students, and staff are encouraged to avoid being alone whenever possible and are advised to refrain from leaving hostel rooms at night unless absolutely necessary.

In such cases, they are required to inform the concerned authority in advance to ensure proper safety measures are in place. The advisory also discourages off-campus activities during late or odd hours, urging all hostel residents to strictly adhere to the established hostel norms and regulations.

Caution is also advised when interacting with unknown or suspicious individuals, and the importance of having access to emergency contact methods at all times is underscored.

While on duty, female members are encouraged to maintain emotional composure, stay alert, and interact graciously with the public, with the intention of avoiding unnecessary attention that could compromise their safety.

The advisory also emphasizes the importance of promptly reporting any issues or grievances to the appropriate committees within the institution, including the Gender Harassment, Disciplinary, Internal Complaint, and Anti-Ragging committees.
