Assam takes its jibe against Cancer, Govt. to construct 300 bedded Cancer Hospital
Assam Government to construct 300 bedded Cancer Hospital in AMCH in Dibrugarh in association with TATA Trusts.
Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases which has put the entire mankind under its arrest. Fundamentally speaking, cancer is the spread of abnormal multiplication of cells throughout the body. A cell receives instructions to die so that the body can replace it with a newer cell that functions better. Cancerous cells lack the components that instruct them to stop dividing and to die. Its common causes include- smoking, tobacco consumption, diet and physical activity, virus and other infections. The most visible cancers are- bladder cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, kidney cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, oral cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer.
According to the World Health Organisation, 10 million global deaths of 2020 were due to Cancer. Particularly speaking about India, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research, the cancer total cancer cases were estimated to be around 13.9 lakhs and is expected to cross 15.5 lakhs by 2025. As per deaths are concerned, 1 out of 15 Indians dies because of cancer. This alarming situation thus gives a wake-up call to all the stakeholders fighting against cancer. The Government of India and the other State Governments are taking steps towards curbing the 'cancer cry' in the country but yes, there are a lot of scopes of improvement and a lot more can be done.
In a recent announcement through a Facebook post, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has reprimanded Assam's fight against one of the most crucial health obstacle of the globe, not coronavirus this time, but cancer. At a time where the entire world has its focal point on covid, Assam is keeping its focus equally on multiple crucial aspects of the health sector.
To make the cancer care infrastructure better off, the Government of Assam in association with Tata Trusts has taken up the humongous task of constructing a 300 bedded cancer hospital at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. Dr. Sarma reviewed its progress with Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, Ministers Sanjay Kishan and Bimal Borah and the local MLA's.
