Assam University conducts Workshop on Skill Development for Women; VC inaugurates "Center for Media Dynamics"

A new Centre "Centre for Media Dynamics" was inaugurated at Assam University, Silchar today by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajive Mohan Pant, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Bhanawat, Former Head, Center for Mass Communication, Rajasthan University and Editor of Communication Today and various other dignitaries and students. The Director of the Centre Prof. Dr. G. P. Pandey delivered the welcome address and Dr. Paromita Das, Coordinator of the Centre talked about the vision of the Centre. Prof. Pant in his presidential speech emphasized the importance of skill development for self reliability and how media can play a crucial role towards Atmanirbharta.

The inaugural session was followed by a one-day National workshop on women empowerment through Skill Development and Communication strategies which was coordinated by Dr. Joyasree Dey, Assistant Professor.

The goal of the workshop was to make the women aware of the various avenues where they can start entrepreneurship in this part valley with minimal investments and government support and how they can take the advantages of various media including social media for information related to them.

Director, Department of Agricultural officer, Cachar, Dr. A.R. Ahmed and Senior Faculty and Course Coordinator, PNBRSETI Saheed A. Choudhury were the resource persons of the workshop.

During the technical sessions both the speakers provided information about different agricultural, veterinary, handicraft products products where they can start a new venture. They talked about focusing on specialized agri-products which can be sold in the market as a small scale company.

Dr. Ahmed talked about FPC, Kisan Rail, Cold Room. The resource persons shared success stories from various other states like Gujarat, Maharashtra etc and urged the participants to build FPC with the organization.

The programme was attended by Women from the neighboring areas of the university as well as students. 

The program was attended by SHG and jeevika Sakhis of Borjalenga block.

Total 75 women have participated in the program along with students from Dept of Mass communication and Social work
