Assam University Students' Union urges removal of CUET UG exam requirement for admissions

The Assam University Students' Union (AUSU), led by President Subham Roy, has called for the elimination of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG exam requirement for admissions to Assam University's affiliated colleges. The union submitted a memorandum to the Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, highlighting the challenges posed by the current examination system.

The memorandum pointed out that many students from the region face significant difficulties due to the distant locations of CUET UG exam centers. The long travel distances to these centers have caused undue stress and inconvenience for the students, the AUSU noted.

The union stressed the importance of creating a more accessible and inclusive admission process. They proposed that student admissions should be based on their academic performance and previous class marks, rather than the CUET UG exam. This, they argue, would provide a fairer and more equitable opportunity for all students seeking admission to the university's colleges.

AUSU has urged the NTA and Assam University to consider this proposal seriously and work towards a more student-friendly admission system. President Subham Roy has expressed the union's willingness to engage in further discussions to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students.

The call from AUSU reflects a broader concern about the accessibility of higher education for students in remote areas, emphasizing the need for reforms that prioritize student welfare and accessibility.
