Barak Banga's Memorandum to District Magistrate for the people of Containment Zones:

A covid positive case bears trouble, not only for the family physically and mentally but also for other families nearby, as the government has been declaring many such areas as contamination zones, to cease the widespread of the virus, where the residents have to be in a house-arrest situation for 14 days.

The issues the people face, however, seems to be no one's concern anymore. A meeting in this regard was held with District Magistrate Kirti Jalli on behalf of Silchar City Regional Committee of Barak Valley Banga Sahitya and Sanskriti Sammilan on Monday. They submitted a memorandum, asking for provisions for food and health services in the containment zones.

As an example, Barak Barta cited the incident of the plight of the residents of Matrushree Lane on Ullaskar Dutta Sarani in Silchar. The situation, as said, is very bad where people are running out of vegetables and even baby foods, and handing out money to the guards are of no use as well. The District Magistrate was warned that the situation will be even worse if the suburbs or rural areas are declared as containment zones, with no good facilities provided.

The delegation namely, Uttam Kumar Saha, Nikhil Paul, Deepak Sengupta, Joydeep Bhattacharya, Kamal Paul and others say that there is no need of handing out free food everywhere, rather arrangements must be made for such areas, where the people can get adequate food and health services.
