The rising water level of the Barak River has exceeded the danger mark, causing widespread panic among the residents. The primary focus of concern is the Betukandi embankment, which has drawn significant attention.
The city's inhabitants are particularly anxious, with riverbank areas already flooded. The district administration is on high alert following the river's breach of the danger level.
On Wednesday evening, prominent officials, including Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, and Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahatta, inspected the embankment.
Their first stop was Betukandi, a critical area because the catastrophic flood in 2022 originated from this location. Consequently, the administration is maintaining strict vigilance over Betukandi to prevent a recurrence of such a disaster.
