Amidst such tempestuous times, many of us who once had certain misconceptions about you-tube and Instagram influencers, turned to them to laugh a bit. And this is how, I discovered ‘Only Desi' –

YouTube is a very popular mode of entertainment in Barak Valley .The growing craze of such a platform has made many digital content-creators household names. The greatest examples are BB ki Vines, Ashish Chanchalani, Harsh Beniwal, Carry Minati, Prajakta Kohli, Kusha Kapila, Slayy Point and others. Their popularity has also made them Instagram influencers. Admit it or not but our life is basically watching the Instagram Stories and reels of Kusha Kapila all day long. But in this myriad of content-creators, perhaps we are missing out on some youtubers who are geniuses in their craft but are not widely known. One of them is Only Desi – a simple you-tube channel and it’s aim – to literally destroy everything that made our childhood.

Amidst such tempestuous times, many of us who once had certain misconceptions about you-tube and Instagram influencers, turned to them to laugh a bit. And this is how, I discovered ‘Only Desi' – a you-tube channel run by Ankit Patel, an Indian Gujju based in Canada.
And I must say, he is not only genius, he is indigenous!!! Many of us were quite upset when Kanan Gill and Biswa Kalyan Rath abruptly ended their ‘ Pretentious Movie Reviews ‘ a few years back after making our tears come out with laughter. And after that many creators have tried their fair hand at murdering our childhood memories, and some of them are doing really well, but one has to say that Only Desi is the true successor.
Only Desi's true talent lies in relating the superficial yet hit Bollywood storylines to the real life of a common Indian with a fake NRI accent. One of his signature dialogues about the sanskari Rajshri films is – “ Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, jinki movies dekh kar hamara aadha bachpan yehi sochne mein nikal gaya ki shayad India mein bas hamari family hi gareeb hain. ” From pointing out problematic and sexist scenes in movies that haven’t really aged well like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Pardes to roasting already panned movies like Mela, Race 3 , Aap Mujhe Achchhe Lagne Lage, and Jaani Dushman, this guy will compel you to never look at Bollywood the same way again.
He even had the guts to make a roast of 3 Idiots. And that is when we realise that even the G.O.A.T is not G. O. A. T afterall. He doesn’t even spare these cheap Bollywood remakes of South Indian movies and the Hindi dubbed Tamil films that regularly air on Star Gold. ( Who hasn’t seen Shivaji The Boss?) But often what happens, some of the videos of the content creators are taken down by the production houses. And this has happened with this guy as well. Many of his videos produced by big B-town houses have been taken down. But that hasn’t stopped Ankit from giving us wholesome entertainment and make us smile in these trying times.
So leave behind your parampara, pratishtha aur anushasan and get ready to laugh till your tummy hurts and watch your favourite alien jaadu get destroyed in just a few minutes.
