BDF felicitates Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev for defending Barak's mother tongue's honor
Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev expressed their gratitude towards BDF for the recognition, emphasizing that this honor would be etched in their memories.
In a significant gesture, the Barak Democratic Front (BDF) recognized the courageous efforts of Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev, two housewives and social activists, who took a stand to protect the honor of their mother tongue. The accolade was bestowed upon them at an event held at the Silchar Press Club, where they were felicitated for their proactive initiative against linguistic disrespect.
The background to this recognition lies in the aftermath of a series of incidents where radical nationalist organizations, including Lachit Sena and Asu, vandalized 24 puja pandals in the Brahmaputra valley for allegedly displaying banners in Bengali during recent festivals. Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev, spurred by their commitment to their language, organized a civic meeting to protest against this perceived insult. Their initiative galvanized influential figures in the valley, leading to a successful protest event.
Acknowledging the duo's remarkable efforts, BDF convenor Hrishikesh Dey and Jaydeep Bhattacharya presented them with wreaths and certificates. Speaking to the press, BDF Chief Convenor Pradeep Dattaray commended the initiative of these two housewives, highlighting their self-motivated approach and relentless dedication. He emphasized that their endeavor stands as a shining chapter in Barak's history, especially in an era where many youth seem disengaged from such vital causes.
BDF Media Cell Chief Convener Jaideep Bhattacharya expressed optimism that the initiative taken by Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev would inspire more women in Barak to defend their mother tongue and other rights. He underscored the need for the government to address linguistic aggression and other forms of discrimination prevalent in the region.
Hrishikesh Dey, another BDF convener, drew parallels with the sacrifice of martyr Kamala Bhattacharya, emphasizing that the efforts of these two housewives were a fitting tribute to her legacy. Social activist Adima Majumdar, also present at the event, praised their initiative and demanded immediate government action against those responsible for the linguistic aggression.
Arundhati Gupta and Aloka Dev expressed their gratitude towards BDF for the recognition, emphasizing that this honor would be etched in their memories. They credited BDF for their support and affirmed their commitment to continuing their protest against linguistic disrespect, promising to announce their next program soon. The event highlighted the power of grassroots initiatives and community-led efforts in upholding cultural and linguistic heritage.
