Betel Nut Smuggler detained, Paltan Bazar Police caught 'Burmese Supari' Mastermind at Ulubari.
One of the masterminds behind the illegal transport of Myanmar betel nuts from other countries to various parts of India, Nayan Ghosh was detained by Paltan Bazar Police at a hotel in Ulubari yesterday.
This morning, he was escorted to the Dholai Police Station of Cacha District. A special team of Cachar police arrived in Guwahati and escorted him to Dholai. He is now being questioned by police officials.
According to police sources, the Dholai police station has filed a lawsuit against him. The case has been filed against him under Article 21 (C) of the NDPS ACT 120B, 420, 379, and 411 IPC. The source also informed that the case was brought against him after an MZ 05 A049 bus was detained by the police in Dholai. According to available information, the bus carried Burmese betel nuts from Mizoram and entered Assam through Lailapur.
It is worth mentioning here that, after chasing the police car, a car reached Dholai. A woman and a young boy travelled by car and began to interact with police officials. When the media personnel present asked them if they were related to Nayan Ghosh, they misbehaved to the reporter and hurried away with words such as "nonsense". Nobody has any clue who they are or where they come from.
At present, the police are keeping their distance from the media, and the superintendent is likely to report this to the media.
