Brave Assam Police Officer Injured in Knife Attack While Apprehending Notorious Thief

A courageous policeman was injured in a knife attack while attempting to arrest a notorious thief, Suresh Chakraborty (Bombal), in Kathigorah, Cachar district. The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a group of police officers went to apprehend the wanted criminal. Upon sighting the police, the thief attempted to flee, prompting a brave soldier from the 6th Assam Police Battalion, Jayant Kakti, to intercept him. During the struggle, the thief attacked the officer with a knife, resulting in severe injuries to Jayant Kakti's hand. Despite his injuries, Kakti valiantly held onto the thief until backup arrived. The injured officer has been admitted to Kathigorah Model Hospital for medical treatment.

Police sources revealed that Bombal is involved in several theft cases and has a history of arrests and imprisonment. Notably, one of the recent thefts occurred on Navami night when a shop in Chowrangi was burglarized. Another accomplice was apprehended, and both individuals have been detained, along with the recovered stolen items.
The Assam Police have commended Jayant Kakti's bravery and are ensuring the injured officer receives the necessary medical care. Investigations into the incident and Bombal's criminal activities are ongoing.
