Bus services halted, drivers demonstrate protest after auto drivers allegedly attack ASTC bus drivers in Silchar
This incident is not isolated, as the bus drivers and owners claimed that they have been attacked multiple times in the past.
Bus services under the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) came to a standstill in Silchar on Friday after a group of auto drivers allegedly subjected ASTC bus drivers and owners to violence. The incident occurred when auto drivers, operating on the Dwarbond-Silchar route, reportedly misbehaved with the government transport department's bus drivers.
It has been reported that a bus driver was detained by a group of auto drivers on Thursday afternoon, leading to a protest by bus drivers and owners. In response, they decided to cease bus operations as a sign of protest. The aggrieved parties have lodged a complaint with the Transport Minister and expressed their intention to meet the District Magistrate regarding the matter.
This incident is not isolated, as the bus drivers and owners claimed that they have been attacked multiple times in the past. Despite their previous reports and efforts, the aggression from auto drivers continues. The affected bus operators have decided to refrain from operating buses until the injustices against them are properly addressed.
According to the affected parties, 12 passenger vehicles operate under ASTC on the specified route, with proper government permissions. However, auto drivers, who are not allowed to travel from Doar Band to the National Highway point of Silchar, have been violating these rules and behaving aggressively, causing significant disruptions to public transportation services in the area.
