The Cachar District NSUI staged a dramatic protest in Silchar, burning an effigy of the state's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, in response to increased admission fees and alleged extortion in the education system. The protest took place on Tuesday, starting from the district Congress office with officials marching and chanting slogans such as "Education Department Down Down" and "Education Minister Go Back."

The situation intensified as the protesters set the effigy ablaze, filling the area with slogans of "Murdabad." The police, alerted to the protest, quickly arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire by pouring water on it.

Speaking to the media, NSUI officials expressed their frustration with the government's handling of students' lives. They highlighted the government's and the education department's failure, citing a 30-40% increase in admission fees as a significant issue. The officials also pointed out instances of extortion during the higher secondary and postgraduate admission processes, affecting both rural and urban areas. They demanded a high-level investigation into these matters.

The NSUI further claimed to possess information about a scandal at Silchar GC College related to student admissions, which they intend to present to the investigation commission. They condemned the government for running the administration by increasing student admission fees and criticized the Chief Minister's praise for the education department.

Key attendees at the protest included Janmajay Choudhury, Anis Ansari, Manoj Guala, Siddharth Banik, Abhijit Das, Dipankar Hazam, Sarojit Das, Mujahir Barbhuiya, and Priyam Das. The NSUI officials reiterated their commitment to opposing any form of manipulation in the education sector and demanded immediate action to address their concerns.
