Silchar, Assam: In a significant joint operation, the Cachar Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) apprehended two individuals attempting to smuggle drugs worth an estimated Rs 20 crore in the black market. Acting on confidential information, the operation targeted drug traffickers traveling from Mizoram to Assam.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Joseph Lalnunmabiya, 22, hailing from Mizoram, and F Lalmangaihjuala, 30, from Champai district. The smugglers devised an intricate method to transport the illegal substances, concealing four packets containing a total of four kilograms of methamphetamine within a specially designed secret chamber in their luggage.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the Cachar Police and CISF swiftly acted to intercept the suspects at the airport. The meticulous search operation led to the discovery and subsequent seizure of the drug parcels, preventing their entry into the illicit market. Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, is a highly addictive synthetic substance with severe health implications.

Addressing the media, Additional Superintendent of Police Subrata Sen stated that the successful operation was a result of vigilant collaboration between law enforcement agencies and highlighted the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities. The intercepted drugs, valued at approximately Rs 20 crore, represent a significant dent in the illegal drug trade network operating in the region.

Both Lalnunmabiya and Lalmangaihjuala are now in police custody, where they will face legal proceedings for their involvement in drug trafficking. Law enforcement officials have emphasized their ongoing commitment to combating drug-related activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The joint operation underscores the agencies' dedication to maintaining security and curbing the drug menace in the region.
