Cachar Police seize heroin worth ₹9.5 crores, arrest six in major drug bust
In a significant crackdown on the transportation of narcotic substances, Cachar Police conducted two separate special operations today, leading to the apprehension of six individuals and the seizure of heroin worth approximately ₹9.5 crores.
The operations took place at Ram Prasadpur, Dholai, and Banskandi, Lakhipur, resulting in the recovery of 150 soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 1.900 kilograms. The consignment was reportedly being illegally transported from Churachandpur, Manipur.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as:
1. Bintu Singha (28 years), son of Biren Singha, resident of Fulertol, P.S. Lakhipur, Dist. Cachar.
2. Rajen Singha (41 years), son of the late Monmohan Singha, resident of Lantugram, P.S. Dholai.
3. Ekbar Hussain (23 years), son of Harish Ali, resident of Bhumikpara, P.S. Barabakra, Dist. Jiribam, Manipur.
4. Borjohna Hmar (27 years), son of Lalroot Hmar, resident of Bhumikpara, P.S. Barabakra, Dist. Jiribam, Manipur.
5. Robert Lalmalsawn (24 years), son of the late Chongkhum, resident of Lungthulium, P.S. Parbung, Dist. Pherzawl, Manipur.
6. Daniel Lalringhet (26 years), son of the late Lalsiemsang, resident of Fulertol, P.S. Lakhipur.
During the operation, the police also seized a Scooty (No. AS 08/8747) and a Maruti Jimmy car (bearing registration MZ01 AB/3456), both of which were involved in the transportation of the narcotics.
The seizure is a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the region, with the estimated black market value of the confiscated heroin being around ₹9.5 crores.
The police have launched a detailed investigation into the case to uncover further links and networks involved in the illegal trade. Senior officials have commended the efforts of the police force and reiterated their commitment to combating the menace of drug trafficking.
