Cachar shuts down its educational institutions, AU yet to notify on TDC exams
The way the university administration has been ignoring the student demands for online exam and have failed to address the concerns of students and teachers regarding the COVID-19 spread during exams is now put to test after the government orders.
The Cachar Deputy Commissioner has shut the educational institutions and hostels up to the University level in the district on Tuesday. In the wake of the second wave of the COVID crisis, the state seems to proceed towards lockdown in general phases. The order issued by the DC Cachar stated, "In pursuance of Govt. order No. ASE01/2020/Pt-V/4, Dated:27/04/2021 issued by Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Elementary/Secondary and Higher Education Department, Dispur, Guwahati-6 and in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 34 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, the undersigned in her capacity as the Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority, Cachar directs all Educational Institutions (both Government and Non-Government) from Pre-primary section to University level along with Hostels and Coaching Institutions for a period of 15(fifteen) days, i.e; up to 12 May 2021. However, online classes have to be made available for the students. This order will come into effect with immediate effect."
However, what remains to be observed now is how Assam University reacts to it. The way the university administration has been ignoring the student demands for online exam and have failed to address the concerns of students and teachers regarding the COVID-19 spread during exams is now put to test after the government orders. The government orders, if and when followed, would defer the exams till 12 May or the University has to conduct them in online mode. Any official notice from the university is still awaited.
