CBSE Class 10 exams cancelled; Class 12 exams postponed.
Class 10 students to be promoted based on internal assessment. Class 12 examination dates to be announced after June 1.
The centre on Wednesday announced the cancellation of CBSE board exams for Class 10 and postponed Class 12 exams which were scheduled for May-June in the wake of all-time high COVID-19 cases in the country.
The decision was taken at a high-priority meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself because of rising cases of people affected by COVID-19. The meeting was attended by Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal,
education secretary and other officials.
In the official statement released after the meeting, the Union education ministry said, “Looking at the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the students, it is decided as follows. The Board Exams for Class 12 to be held from May 4th to June, 14th, 2021 are hereby postponed. These exams will be held hereafter.”
The revised date sheet for class 12 will be announced after June 1, by the Union Education Ministry after reviewing the situation.
A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations, as mentioned in the official statement.
For Class 10, officials have decided to promote the students based on internal assessment. “The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared based on an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be allowed to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams,” the statement added.
