Celebrating Bir Lachit Barphukan: Silchar unites in tribute on 401st birth anniversary

In a fervent celebration of the 401st birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, the student organization ACKHSA orchestrated a series of events in Silchar. The commemoration unfolded with reverence and enthusiasm, culminating in a gathering at the office of Silchar Madhya Sahar Sanshikari Samity on Friday.

The organizers paid homage to Bir Lachit by garlanding and illuminating his portrait during the meeting. Chaired by Professor Niranjan Dutt, the session featured various speakers shedding light on the multifaceted achievements of the valiant Bir Lachit Barphukan. The emphasis was on inspiring the newer generation to walk the path set by Lachit and contribute to the progress of society.

However, the event did not escape comments on the perceived misuse of the term "Lachit Sena," raising concerns about its association with extremist ideologies. Many expressed their disapproval of linking a patriot and formidable warrior, who resisted the Mughal Empire's invasion and sacrificed even his uncle for the nation, with any form of extremism. Officials from various organizations urged the self-proclaimed "Lachit Sena" to cease activities, branding it a non-existent and deceptive entity.

Company officials participating in the event underscored that Lachit Barphukan's accomplishments, even after 400 years, stand indomitable. They affirmed that the fearless and illustrious warrior would forever be revered as a symbol of national pride.

The occasion witnessed the remembrance of Lachit Barphukan's legacy from 1622 to 1672, promising to etch his tale in golden letters in the annals of history. Distinguished guests, including Vasudev Sharma, Principal of Cachar College; Dr. Siddharth Shankar Nath; Dr. Partha Pratim Adhikari; Debashish Biswas; Vikas Chakraborty; and Chayan Bhattacharya, graced the event with their presence.
