Clash at Silchar Ashram road Ruby Wine Shop: Shop owner injured, community demands immediate closure

A heated altercation erupted on Friday night at Ashram Road, Silchar, centered around a local wineshop.

The confrontation led to severe injuries for the shop owner, Sukanta Kar, as members of the Kayastha community accused the shop of enabling public drinking and harassment of women.

Kar was attacked after community leader Suranjit Das Choudhury and his group demanded answers about the disturbances.

Following the altercation, additional police forces led by Subrata Sen had to intervene to restore order, and both parties filed complaints against each other.

Kar alleged that Das Choudhury's group attacked him over unpaid dues and false accusations, while Das Choudhury claimed the wineshop disrupted public safety, particularly for women.

Local BJP leaders supported Das Choudhury's stance, emphasizing the negative impact of the wineshop on the neighborhood.

They urged authorities to shut down the establishment to restore peace and safety in the area. 

The situation remains tense as both sides await further action from the district administration
