Cooks Demand Fair Wages: Protest Shakes Narsingpur Education Sector
In a powerful display of unity and determination, hundreds of cooks in the Narsingpur education sector of Cachar district took to the streets on Wednesday, demanding their rights and fair compensation. Over five hundred Radhunis (cooks) from various schools under the Narsingpur block branch of Sadau Assam Midday Meal Employees Union gathered in front of the Narsingpur Shikshankhand, staging a peaceful demonstration from 8:30 am onwards.
Amidst chants and slogans, the cooks highlighted their grievances and sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Narsinghpur Education Block BEE Ajay Chauhan. They expressed their frustration, stating that despite their hard work in schools from morning to afternoon, they receive a meager payment of 1500 taka, making it nearly impossible to sustain their families.
Their demands include a monthly salary of Rs 10,000, resolution of pending arrears, financial aid and insurance coverage for kitchen accidents, exemption from government taxes, a one-time pension of Rs 3 lakh upon retirement, and timely salary disbursement within the first week of each month. The cooks earnestly appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma to address their concerns and ensure their rightful compensation.
This demonstration highlights the urgent need for fair wages and adequate support for these essential workers. The determination of the cooks echoes the collective voice of laborers striving for a dignified livelihood. Their call for justice resonates not only in Narsingpur but also across the region, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the invaluable contributions of all workers. Stay tuned for updates on this developing situation.
