Cyclone Remal devastates Silchar: Floods, road collapses, and strong wind
Barak Valley, particularly Silchar, is in disarray due to Cyclone Remal.
Continuous rainfall since Monday afternoon has flooded various parts of the city, with water entering homes in areas like Das Colony, Tarapur, Vivekananda Road, Sonai Road, College Road, and Hailakandi Road.
Landslides have cut off the Haflong-Silchar road, and the Silchar-Guwahati route via Sonapur is on the brink of disconnection. Rail services are also suspended.
Flight fares between Silchar and Guwahati have surged to an unbelievable ₹73,000, taking advantage of the dire situation.
Heavy rains have inundated multiple city areas, exacerbated by strong winds and continuous downpour. Most areas have been without electricity since morning, creating a dire situation for Barak Valley residents.
In rural Cachar, strong winds have damaged numerous homes. The weather forecast predicts the effects of Cyclone Remal may persist for another day or two, worsening the already critical conditions.
