De-addiction center founder faces defamation amid allegations of beating teen; plans legal action
The New Life Foundation, led by its founder secretary, Kamrul Islam Laskar, is facing a critical juncture following the emergence of a viral video on social media. The video has cast a shadow of disrepute over Kamrul Islam Laskar and his de-addiction center after a young man named Azim Laskar accused Kamrul and his staff of assaulting him. The alleged reason behind the assault was Azim's elopement with a girl named Farhana Khatun (name changed), which occurred last Thursday.
Azim Laskar claimed that he and his girlfriend willingly fled to Shillong, the capital of the neighboring state Meghalaya, but were coerced into returning. Initially, Farhana Khatun, a sixth-semester degree student, testified in court that she had chosen to be with Azim. However, after counseling at the Sadar police station in Silchar, she changed her stance, opting to return to her parents. She has since appealed for the removal of the viral videos.
Meanwhile, Kamrul Islam Laskar, who aided the police in retrieving the girl, finds himself embroiled in controversy. Accusations have surfaced alleging that he and his foundation accepted 10 lakh rupees from Farhana Khatun's parents and assaulted Azim Laskar. In response, Kamrul Islam Laskar has announced his intention to file a defamation case against both the social media platform and Azim Laskar, with proceedings set to commence today.
The unfolding situation has placed Kamrul Islam Laskar and the New Life Foundation under intense scrutiny, raising questions about the methods employed at the rehabilitation center and the handling of delicate personal matters.
