Devastating fire at Silchar's heart, Kalipada Das's Institute of Industrial and Information Technology (IIIT) burnt down to ashes, 1 injured, property worth lakhs destroyed

A devastating fire broke out on Saturday in the Shillong Patty area of Silchar, severely impacting the IIIT campus located on the upper floor of the Bank of Baroda building. The IIIT is owned by Kalipada Sir.

The fire erupted on the top floor of the Bank of Baroda building, spreading rapidly and engulfing the surroundings in thick smoke. Panic ensued among nearby residents, prompting an immediate response from the fire brigade. Three fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze.

Significant damage was reported, including the destruction of study materials, furniture, over 50 computers, and smart boards. Fortunately, student documents were reported safe. Among the approximately 20-25 students present during the fire, there were no fatalities. However, one girl sustained injuries during the rescue operation and is currently receiving treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit caused the fire. The incident has caused considerable disruption and concern among the local community, though swift action by the fire brigade helped prevent further escalation.
