Development initiatives key to BJP's victory in Silchar: Sarbananda Sonowal

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, speaking in Silchar, highlighted the significant development brought to Northeast India by the BJP-led government over the past decade.

He expressed confidence in winning over 12 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, attributing this to the BJP's transformative initiatives. Sonowal criticized the neglect by former Congress governments, contrasting it with the attention the region has received under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, with Rs 5.5 lakh crores allocated for Northeast development.

Sonowal emphasized the tangible outcomes of this investment, citing the Barak River's designation as National Waterway no.16 and its potential to boost trade and tourism. He outlined plans for infrastructure development, including a jetty in Silchar and terminals for passenger and cargo facilities, connecting the route with the Bay of Bengal via Bangladesh.

Additionally, he called on first-time voters to participate in the upcoming elections and lauded Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's efforts for the development of Assam, particularly the Barak Valley.

Sonowal underscored the importance of unity among the people of Assam, urging collaboration for the state's overall development. He expressed optimism about attracting fresh investment to the Barak Valley, envisioning Silchar as a smart city and allocating funds for the southern Assam's development. The minister also commended the improvements in transportation infrastructure in Silchar since 2016, reflecting the government's commitment to transformation and progress.
