Silchar MLA, Sri Dipayan Chakraborty and Deputy Commissioner Cachar, Smt. Keerthi Jalli, IAS accompanied by Municipal Executive Officer Smt. JR Lalsimhave appealed to the citizens not to dispose of wastes on roadside or drains in Silchar town.
In an effort to improve efficiency of solid waste management a door-to-door garbage collection drive has been started on Sunday to make Silchar garbage-free.
They went from house to house in wards 6 and 7 under Silchar Municipal Board from Ukilpatti in the city and distributed two buckets colored red and green buckets for waste management. Citizens were asked to separate liquid waste in the red bucket and solid waste in the green bucket. They also gave a strong message to the citizens and shopkeepers that strict action would be taken against those who dump their waste in drains, sidewalks and roads. In these cases, the shopkeeper’s trade license will also be canceled and will not be renewed.
As part of waste management, this waste will be collected and disposed of in a scientific manner through non-governmental voluntary organizations working under the municipality.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the executive officer of the municipality to take steps to ensure the removal of garbage on the sidewalks and drains while getting a new trade license.
The Deputy Commissioner said that adequate lighting would be provided in response to the demand of the citizens to keep the drain free from garbage, in addition to that she further stated that the vegetable market of Faatak bazar will be shifted to the abandoned land of the municipality on Water Works Road in the city.
