Fear grips Bethukandi residents amidst land mafia threats, allege police for adequate action, issues 24-hour ultimatum to police authorities
The residents of Bethukandi, near Silchar city, are living in fear as they claim to be under the threat of a powerful land mafia. Despite filing a case at Silchar Sadar police station, justice remains elusive for the people of Bethukandi Karopa.
Expressing their grievances, the locals have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the police administration, demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the land-grabbing incidents.
The alarming situation unfolded when land mafias targeted the Bethukandi Karopa area, attempting to seize local lands. In the process, several women and youths sustained serious injuries during an attack by the land mafia.
Despite the filing of a case at Sadar Police Station, the residents claim that, for mysterious reasons, no arrests have been made even after 20 days. The community members are now living in constant fear due to the threats posed by the land mafia, compelling some to confine themselves within their homes.
Speaking to the media representatives on Tuesday, the affected residents voiced their concerns, emphasizing that the land mafia continues to intimidate them daily. Seeking relief from the dire situation, they have drawn the attention of the Chief Minister, urging swift action against the perpetrators.
The residents have strongly urged the government to arrest the land mafias promptly and take immediate measures to ensure the safety of the community. Failing this, they have warned of potential future protest movements to address their concerns and secure justice.
