GMCH Principal Achyut Ch. Baishya shared the encouraging news, attributing the decline to people following traffic rules and the strict enforcement of protocols by the police.
During the Durga Puja celebrations, the number of road accident-related cases at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati saw a significant decrease, dropping from 329 cases last year to 282 this year, with no reported deaths.
GMCH Principal Achyut Ch. Baishya shared the encouraging news, attributing the decline to people following traffic rules and the strict enforcement of protocols by the police. He expressed satisfaction about the reduced number of emergency cases during the festive period.
Baishya stated that out of 360 patients admitted to the emergency ward on Saturday, only 52 cases were accident-related. The following day, Sunday, saw 64 accident-related cases out of 355 admissions. Although the numbers increased on Monday, with 80 road accident cases out of 341 admissions, the overall emergency cases were lower. On Tuesday, Dashami, there were 86 accident-related cases out of a total of 465 emergency cases reported, even during heightened immersion activities.
Last year, 13 casualties resulted from road accident-related cases during the same period, whereas this year, not a single death occurred due to accidents. Baishya emphasized the positive impact of people abiding by rules and the police enforcing guidelines, leading to a decrease in such incidents. He noted a decline in critical care, ICU-related, or multi-trauma cases among accident-related patients, highlighting the overall improvement in the situation.
