Fourth death in Cachar floods: 14-year-old boy drowns in Lakhipur
Another tragic incident of drowning due to floodwaters occurred in Cachar, raising the death toll to four. On Saturday afternoon, the body of a teenager was recovered from the Labok area in the Lakhipur constituency.
Earlier that morning, a 14-year-old boy named Shyamkumar Panika drowned in the floodwaters while playing near his home in the Labok Bil Bagan area. Shyamkumar was playing with other children when he accidentally fell into the sudden floodwaters. Upon realizing he was missing, his family began a search but were unable to find him.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was notified and began a search operation. By around 3 PM, the SDRF team recovered the teenager's body. Upon receiving the news, a magistrate and police officers arrived at the scene. After conducting a preliminary investigation, the authorities sent the body to Silchar Medical College for an autopsy.
This incident highlights the dangers posed by the ongoing floods in the region and the tragic impact on the local communities.
