Three oxygen plants at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital(GMCH) in Assam’s Guwahati have become operational now.

Health minister 'Himanta Biswa sarma' announced this through his Twitter handle on Monday.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that these plants will greatly aid in the timely supply of oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the Kamrup (Metro) district, which is recording the highest number of active cases in the state at present time.

A total of 1844 fresh Covid-19 cases were detected in Assam on Sunday, with 791 in Kamrup (Metro) alone.

These plants have been set up with assistance from the Union government.

Seeing the oxygen crisis all over India Assam is planning to bring in oxygen from Bhutan to ease the oxygen crisis.
Minister of state for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika and Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary on Sunday visited the oxygen plant at Samdrup Jhankhar in Bhutan. The plant will produce 50 metric tonnes of oxygen per day once it becomes operational.
