In a late-night operation on Monday, Sub-Inspector Chandan Patawari and Woman Constable Korobi Das from Gumrah Police Investigation Center were severely injured while attempting to apprehend the notorious cattle smuggler Pakhi Mia, also known as Abdul Wahid, in Natanpur village, West Katigorah. The incident has left the local community in shock.
The raid, led by Panch Pallab Bora, Officer-in-Charge of Gumrah Police, alongside SI Chandan Patawari, Woman Constable Korobi Das, and approximately 15 other officers, targeted Pakhi Mia's residence. As the police entered the house, they were met with fierce resistance from Pakhi Mia's family, who attacked the officers with sharp weapons including machetes, swords, iron rods, and shovels.
Despite their efforts to defend themselves, the police faced intense violence. Pakhi Mia's wife, Abida Begum Laskar, assaulted Constable Korobi Das with a machete. SI Chandan Patawari rushed to her aid, only to be struck on the head by Abida Begum, causing severe injuries.
After a tense struggle, the police managed to arrest Pakhi Mia and other attackers. SI Chandan Patawari, due to the critical nature of his head injury, was immediately transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Those arrested include the infamous smuggler Pakhi Mia, his wife Abida Begum Laskar, their daughter Kulsum Begum, and son Rohit Ahmed Barbhuiya. The violent confrontation has sent ripples of concern throughout the region, highlighting the dangers faced by law enforcement in tackling organized crime.
