Hindu Chatra Sangha conducts Email campaign, Demands Proper Recognition for the Martyrs of 1961

Today, the whole of Barak Valley in Assam commemorated the sacrifice of the 11 martyrs for the preservation of their mother tongue Bengali in their part of the state of Assam. 11 young bengalis were martyred in the firing by CRPF jawans on a non-violent protest in Silchar Railway Station on 19 May 1961, under the direction of the state.

In their unique way of commemorating the sacrifices, the 'Hindu Chatra Sangha' organised an email campaign, addressed to the Chief Minister of Assam, demanding for proper recognition of the martyrs of 1961. They also demanded for the unconditional release of the Bengali Hindus in the detention camps of Assam.

The email campaign received a huge response among the young students of Silchar and more than 80 emails are sent till now. The email stated, "As you know, the demand for renaming the Silchar Railway Station into 'Bhasha Shahid Station' has already received the nod of the Home Ministry and is still awaited, due to the non-approval of the state government. We expect the new government under your leadership will be humble enough to pay proper respect to the 11 Bengali Hindu martyrs of Barak Valley, who were martyred mercilessly by the Congress government on 19th May 1961."

It further stated, "In addition to that, I would also like to request you to take some bold steps to end the harassment faced by the Bengali Hindus in detention camps of Assam. Proper enlistment should be done as soon as possible, and the Bengali Hindus, whether legally Indian or refugees from Bangladesh, be released from the detention camps, if have arrived before 2014, as was the condition for citizenship in CAA as well."

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Aninda Dev said, "We were willing to launch a signature campaign but could not do that, due to the covid situation. We hope the Chief Minister would be humble enough to listen to our demands and do justice to the people of Barak."
