Hindu Women in saree denied entry in Delhi's Aquila restaurant, slamed by South MCD
In a recent incident, a Hindu woman claimed she was barred to enter a high-end restaurant in Delhi named 'Aquila' as she was dressed in saree. Despite of the recent incident, the South MCD shut down the restaurant.
The high-end restaurant named 'Aquila' in Delhi at Ansal Plaza has been shut after being served a closure notice by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation for operating without a health trade license.
As per the closure notice, the area public health inspector found during a check on September 21 that the restaurant is running without a health trade licence and under unhygienic conditions. It is also flagged alleged holding on public land. After South MCD's mayor Mukesh Suryan confirmed that the restaurant has been closed, he stated,
"The Aquila restaurant was operating without a proper licence. It has now been shut after we issued a closure notice. We are also exploring other actions including imposing a penalty in accordance with the DMC (Delhi Municipal Corporation) Act against the eatery as it was functioning without approval from the civic body."
Meanwhile, In a Facebook post, a Hindu woman named Anita Choudaary alleged she was not allowed to enter the Aquila restaurant at Ansal Plaza here on Sunday, because she was wearing a saree. The post has since gone viral.
She stated, "In one of the restaurants in Delhi, saree is not considered to be a smart outfit. The restaurant''s name is Aquila. We argued over saree, and a lot of excuses were made, but I was not allowed to enter the restaurant, because the Indian attire -- saree is not a smart outfit.
She also posted a short video of her argument with the restaurant staff, alongside a couple of pictures of herself in the saree. Following the viral post, the restaurant, which has been at the receiving end of a massive backlash, on Wednesday claimed that the incident was misrepresented.
