In a collaborative effort between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), 17 new health guidelines have been introduced to advocate for healthier dietary habits. Among these guidelines, the ICMR has placed a particular emphasis on the consumption of milk tea and coffee, urging individuals to exercise moderation.

Highlighting the high caffeine content in both beverages, which can stimulate the central nervous system and lead to physiological dependence, the panel advises a daily caffeine intake limit of 300mg.

Additionally, both tea and coffee, staples in many Indian households and consumed multiple times a day, are noted for their impact on iron absorption, crucial for hemoglobin production. To mitigate this effect, the ICMR recommends abstaining from tea and coffee consumption at least one hour before and after meals.
