IMD warns of severe weather: Red and Orange alerts issued for Assam
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extremely heavy rainfall across Assam and other Northeastern states on May 27 and 28.
An Orange Alert has been declared for several districts including Dhubri, South Salmara, Bongaigaon, and Nagaon, among others, while a Red Alert has been issued for areas like Chirang, Goalpara, and Hailakandi, indicating the likelihood of intense rainfall.
Additionally, squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over South Assam and Meghalaya on May 27.
The warnings come as Cyclone Remal, which made landfall on May 26 in West Bengal and Bangladesh, continues its trajectory towards northeast India.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the region braces for potentially hazardous weather conditions.
