Insufficient relief supplies for flood victims at Nandankanan Tea Garden shelter sparks outrage
In a glaring oversight, 328 flood victims from 65 families at the Nandankanan Tea Garden LP School shelter in Lakhipur received insufficient government relief.
Continuous rainfall raised the water levels of the Barak, Jiri, and Chiri rivers, flooding various villages in Lakhipur, including the Nandankanan Tea Garden area.
Despite being displaced for two days, victims reported receiving only one packet of rice, one packet of lentils, 20 kg of salt, a few liters of mustard oil, and some candles from the Lakhipur administration.
Pregnant women, children, and elderly people are struggling with this minimal aid. Disappointed, many victims have refused the relief and are buying food themselves.
This situation has sparked questions about the effectiveness of the administration and compliance with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's directive for prompt and adequate flood relief.
The community is demanding accountability and proper support for the affected families.
