India Lost A legend on Wednesday: Here is the list of 12 People along with General Bipin Rawat who lost their life in the Helicopter crash

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other persons died in the Air Force chopper that crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

The Indian Air Force confirmed on Twitter the casualties. The Chief of Defence Staff had taken a flight from Delhi to Sulur earlier.

“With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that General Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,” the Indian Force said in a tweet.

The crash happened at a distance of about 10 km from the helipad where it was to land. Sources earlier said that at least three injured people from the crash were taken to a nearby hospital. The crash took place in the Nilgiris, shortly after the Mi-series chopper took off from the army base in Sulur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guteress, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken were among others who mourned his death and expressed their deepest condolences. The state of Uttrakhand declared a  three-day state mourning over the death of Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat. The general belonged to the Saina village of Pauri district in the state.

Those killed in the chopper crash included Military Adviser to the Chief of Defence Staff Brig LS Lidder and staff officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh.
