The league stage of the IPL 2021 is finally done and dusted and we have the four teams making the Playoffs – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

After DC, CSK and RCB confirmed their slots in the first 3 teams to qualify for the playoffs, a big question mark was still there on who will grab the 4th place to assure their place in the playoffs. However, With their clinical victory over Rajasthan Royals on Thursday night, Kolkata Knight Riders have also taken a giant step towards grabbing the fourth and final berth. After the result of the 54th match, only two teams - KKR and MI - are in the fray.

It was almost finalised KKR to play in the playoffs but there was still a chance for MI to edge past KKR to make to playoffs. It was all to be like a miracle for MI. To start with, the scenario comes into play only and only if MI bat first on Friday in their final league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting second will end their chances. And then there’s a small matter of MI needing to score more than 250 runs.

But nothing happened like that, the defending champions failed to do so and thus they are out of IPL 2021 playoffs race. Facing SRH at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi MI batting first put a total of 235/9 in reply to which SRH manage to score 193/8. Their 42-run win proved an effort in vain, though Ishan Kishan's blitzkrieg 84 runs in 32 balls and Suryakumar Yadav's splendid 82 in 39 balls was not enough to stop them from exiting the tournament.

Now the points table goes like this, Delhi Capitals sitting on the top by winning 10/14 matches with 20 pts, CSK holding 2nd in the table by winning 9/14 with 18 pts, RCB at number 3 by winning 9/14 with 18 points and KKR managed to hold on 4th stand by winning 7/14 with 14 points.

This means that we have the four teams that will battle for the IPL title in the Playoffs. DC and CSK will compete in the first Qualifier in Dubai on Sunday, followed by RCB and KKR fighting in the Eliminator for a place to play Qualifier 2 on Monday and the IPL Final – Winner of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Qualifier 2, Friday, October 15.
