CSK started off the IPL season on a downside. CSK captain MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate In the match against DC. As there were strict guidelines by BCCI about slow over rate, former Indian captain was caught after the match .
Dhoni was fined by the IPL board committee after CSK failed to complete their quota of overs in the limited time as per the new IPL 2021 Code of Conduct 2020 urged by BCCI. As it was the first blunder of the season, CSK captain only had to face a fine.
In previous seasons of IPL captains like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul were also fined for slow over rates, IPL organisers decided to come up with strict regulations for slow over-rates after taking note of the matches, which were slipping beyond their scheduled finish time.
By the IPL 2021 BCCI Code of Conduct, the minimum over-rate should be 15 overs (approx) per hour, not including the time taken for two strategic time-outs.
The BCCI ideally wants teams to finish bowling 20 overs within 90 minutes OR less for time management and proper rest for players.
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh," said the IPL governing council.
According to the IPL 2021 Code of Conduct, the minimum over-rate should be 14.1 overs per hour, not including the time taken for strategic time-outs.
