Joint operation yields success as three NNC cadres arrested in Cachar
*Silchar, Date -* In a significant breakthrough, Cachar Police and 39 Assam Rifles executed a joint operation resulting in the arrest of three violent cadres associated with the NNC (National Socialist Council of Nagaland) in an overnight raid at Crowlong village under Namdailong Jirighat police station along the Assam-Manipur border, situated 60 km from Silchar.
Cachar District Superintendent of Police, Nomal Mahatta, revealed this development during a press conference in Silchar on Monday. The operation, based on intelligence information, targeted the active NNC members suspected to be involved in the recent murder of high-ranking cadre Gaidinchungpao Rangmai. The latter was fatally shot in Namdailong village on the Assam-Manipur border on December 12.
The arrested militants have been identified as Pauning Rangmai (45) from Chamtila, Jirighat, Dityuwang Rangmai (40) from Chamtila, Jirighat, and Namjaorei Gangmei (40) from Namdailong, Jirighat. They are believed to have affiliations with the NNC and, upon interrogation, confessed to their active involvement in the organization.
Superintendent Nomal Mahatta informed that the trio, after thorough interrogation, was produced in court and the police requested they be held in custody for ten days. The suspects are now set to face legal proceedings as the police continue their investigation into their alleged roles in the recent high-profile murder.
The arrests underscore the collaborative efforts between the Cachar Police and 39 Assam Rifles in addressing insurgency-related activities along the Assam-Manipur border. The apprehension of these suspected NNC cadres represents a significant stride in maintaining peace and security in the region.
