Kalain school’s spa day: No fans, ₹5 cakes, and a free trip to the Hospital
At Kalain Higher Secondary School, students were served ₹5 cakes instead of the regular mid-day meal, amid an unhealthy environment causing severe discomfort.
The incident occurred on the first day after the summer break, when a 14-year-old Class Seven student lost consciousness due to extreme heat and hunger.
The school, which has been temporarily relocated to makeshift tin structures without fans or windows while new buildings are under construction, has been criticized for its inadequate conditions.
Despite the student's severe condition, school authorities failed to promptly take her to a nearby hospital. It was only after neighboring students informed the girl's guardian that her father, Tarun Das, rushed her to Kalain Hospital.
Unable to afford further treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the family faced significant challenges. After an hour of medical efforts, the girl's condition improved.
Tarun Das expressed frustration, criticizing the school's negligence in addressing the emergency and warning that the school would have been fully responsible if his daughter’s condition had worsened.
