Major drug bust: Cachar Police seize 1.7 kg of heroin worth ₹ 8.5 crore
In a significant breakthrough for anti-narcotics operations, Cachar Police have apprehended a youth in possession of 1.7 kg of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs. 8.5 crore.
The arrest took place at the Assam-Mizoram border's Dholakhal BOP, following a meticulously planned operation led by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, the police team intercepted the suspect on June 6 at approximately 1 AM.
The individual, identified as 33-year-old Abdul Ahad Laskar from Rajgobindpur (Napithkhal) in South Dhalai, attempted to cross the Dholakhal BOP on foot, carrying the illicit drugs.
Upon apprehension, the police discovered the heroin cleverly concealed in 139 soap cases. SP Numal Mahatta confirmed that the street value of the seized heroin is around Rs. 8.5 crore.
A case has been registered under the anti-narcotics law, and a detailed investigation is currently underway to uncover further details of the drug trafficking network.
