Silchar, September 2, 2023: On Saturday, the March for Science organized a press conference to highlight pressing issues plaguing Silchar, including the chronic problem of stagnant water and the mounting garbage crisis in Silchar Phatak Bazar. Representatives from the movement expressed deep concerns about these issues and called upon the government and district administration for immediate action.

Officials from the March for Science shed light on the dire situation in Silchar, where scanty rains have transformed into artificial floods due to inadequate drainage infrastructure, particularly in Silchar town. They criticized the Silchar municipality for its failure to address the long-standing issue of stagnant water, which has inflicted considerable hardship on the local residents.

Additionally, the lack of a designated garbage disposal area in Phatak Bazar has resulted in the accumulation of waste, emitting a foul odor and creating an unsanitary environment in the entire area. The neglect of Silchar's drains has added to the woes of the community. The March for Science, representing the concerned citizens, issued a strong demand for the government and district administration to take action promptly.

The officials emphasized the need to clear encroachments from the drains of Silchar Malgram Dam, address issues in Singir Canal, Rangir Canal, and ensure the proper disposal of garbage. They warned that if their demands remain unaddressed, they would be compelled to initiate a democratic movement in the days ahead. Silchar residents hope that these calls for action will lead to tangible improvements in their living conditions.
