Massive fire engulfs Kanakpur: Five houses and furniture factory turned to ashes

A devastating fire wreaked havoc in the Kanakpur area of Silchar suburb, leaving destruction in its wake. Early on Sunday morning, flames erupted in the rented house of a local resident named Saleuddin, leading to a rapid escalation that consumed five houses and a furniture manufacturing factory.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire originated in Saleuddin's rented house, and within moments, it spiraled out of control. Locals initially noticed the flames emanating from behind the furniture factory, and despite immediate efforts to douse the flames using water from nearby rivers and ponds, their attempts proved futile.

Expressing frustration, residents claimed that repeated calls to the Rangirkhadi police outpost went unanswered. Eventually, two youths were dispatched on bikes to report the fire at the police station. Although the fire brigade responded promptly upon notification, the blaze had already engulfed five houses and the furniture shop.

The inferno resulted in the complete destruction of documents belonging to the affected families, along with the entire inventory of the furniture shop owned by Parul Ahmed. The estimated loss from this devastating incident is around twenty lakh rupees.

Local sentiments suggest that the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. As authorities investigate the cause, the community faces the daunting task of rebuilding and recovering from the extensive damages inflicted by the fire.
