Minorities attacked, mosques vandalised in Tripura after unpleasant communal violence in Bangladesh.
Such incidents are occurring in Tripura after the communal violence happened in Bangladesh. The Tripura police have provided security cover to almost all the mosques in the state.
Days after Hindus were attacked in Bangladesh amidst Durga Puja festivities, its tremors are now being felt in India. What started as a protest, led by the VHP, against the atrocities in Bangladesh have now spun into violence. The northeastern state of Tripura has been witnessing a wave of communal violence over the past few days.
Atleast least six mosques and about a dozen homes and shops allegedly belonging to Muslims have been vandalised in what is believed to be retaliation to the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh. The attacks took place in minority concentrated areas across Tripura,especially in Gomati district, and across North and West Tripura including Krishnanagar, Dharmanagar, Panisagar and Chandrapur districts.
Miscreants carrying torches, sticks and raising slogans allegedly carried out these attacks. The students Islamic organisation alleged that the mobs belongs to Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP), Hindu Jagran Manch(HJM), Bajrang Dal and the RSS.
Section 144 was soon imposed in the region to curb the violence. However it did not stopped the mobs from attacking minorities and even police officials in some areas. The Tripura State Jamiat Ulama submitted a memorandum at CM Biplab Kumar Deb's office appealing to stop the attacks.
BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said the party was against any such incident, and leaders of its minority morcha had reached out to “everyone across the state” to ensure peace.
The second Bangladesh Film Festival, which was scheduled to start in Agartala on Thursday, was cancelled amidst tension and protests over the attacks on minorities.
